Huyton is the oldest village in Knowsley, and it originally functioned as a residence for coal miners in the 1800’s. Today, Huyton is a wonderful residential area for many young professionals and families, who can take advantage of all of the activities and places of interest that the local area has to offer. If you’re new to the area or just need some inspiration for Spring activities with your friends or family, read on for our ideas!

Activities For Families:

With Spring comes new life, so why not meet some of its cutest at Acorn Farm, where lambs, chicks, calves and piglets will shortly be entering the world. It’s an interactive farm, where you and the children can see, feed and pet rabbits, guinea pigs and horses. There are also two outdoor play areas, with a climbing frame, slide and swings. For the foodies amongst you, there is a fantastic café and a farm shop where you can purchase free-range eggs and meat, as well as some more unusual treats such as goat’s milk ice cream. Wandering through the woodland walk is also a lovely activity on a dry day and is a great way to get back to nature.

If you prefer your animals wild, then Knowsley Safari Park is the place to be. Over 700 animals including lions, sea lions, monkeys and rhinos reside at this award-winning park, which offers both driving and walking routes. Should you want to get closer, animal encounters allow you to meet giraffes and meerkats among other friendly faces and there’s always talks, displays and shows for some educational enjoyment. With a restaurant, outdoor grill, coffee house and designated picnic area there’s plenty of choice for food and drink.

Activities For Adults:

The Knowsley Leisure and Culture Park offers two swimming pools, a marvellous gym and squash and badminton courts, as well as fitness classes including Pilates, Yoga, Spin and Boxfit. When it’s time to relax, head to the spa for the Jacuzzi, steam room and a soothing sauna. The café is a good place to meet friends and treat yourself after a hard work-out.

Another local favourite is The Albion Bakehouse, a vintage tea shop known for their superb afternoon tea. Meet up with friends and enjoy their homemade sandwiches, cakes and scones. The elegant décor and the friendly staff will always make you feel welcome. If you would prefer an alcoholic tipple rather than a cup of tea, The Barker’s Brewery has a great selection of drinks and classic pub grub. If the weather is being kind, they also have a great beer garden that you can relax and enjoy the sunshine in.

However you want to spend your Spring, you’ll find it in Huyton.
